Snakeroot and Grapefruit for Toenail Fungus

Given the cost and side effects of prescription oral medications, home and herbal toenail fungus remedies have become increasingly popular. Some are also extremely effective at getting rid of the problem. But treating with slow working herbal preparations takes patience and diligence. Snakeroot, a plant in the sunflower family, has shown some positive results when used as a toenail fungus remedy. The leaf extract from this plant can be used in topical application to disinfect and discourage the growth of the fungus. However, snakeroot has only been successful in the treatment of superficial infections. Another popular toenail fungus remedy is the use of grapefruit seed extract due to its antimicrobial effects and its easy availability from health stores and even some cosmetic stores. Applying tea tree oil to the affected toe is still considered the most effective, natural toenail fungus remedy. Tea tree oil is readily available from pharmacies and health stores. While herbal toenail fungus remedies can have good results, always consult a medical professional if symptoms continue without improvement.
